Rotating Internships

Rotating veterinary internships are structured, year-long postgraduate training programs that provide new veterinary graduates with hands-on clinical experience in a variety of disciplines. These internships are common in large referral hospitals, academic institutions, and specialty practices, and they serve as a stepping stone toward specialization (e.g., residencies) or advanced general practice.

For over 30 years, FHA has provided veterinary graduates with a high-caliber internship program built on a foundation of hands-on experience, structured mentorship, and clinical excellence. Our interns rotate through general practice, emergency, and a wide range of specialty services—supported by over 45 veterinarians, including board-certified specialists across surgery, internal medicine, critical care, ophthalmology, dermatology, cardiology, and more. 

  • State-of-the-art facilities with MRI, CT, hemodialysis, fluoroscopy, digital radiography, and more
  • Two-week orientation, daily cage-side rounds, wet labs, morbidity & mortality rounds
  • Opportunities for electives with the Smithsonian National Zoo, National Aquarium, and Humane Rescue Alliance
  • Assigned mentorship, lecture presentations, and access to academic resources
  • Strong preparation for residencies or general/emergency practice

Located in Washington DC’s historic Tenleytown and Friendship Heights neighborhoods, Friendship has been a cornerstone of the community for close to 90 years. Enjoy nearby restaurants and parks, as well as nationally renowned monuments, museums, and a rich arts culture.

VCSG’s rotating internship delivers immersive, multidisciplinary clinical training in a collaborative, high-volume hospital. Interns work directly with our team of board-certified specialists to rotate through cardiology, internal medicine, emergency & critical care, oncology, neurology, surgery, radiation oncology, and rehabilitation—building both technical proficiency and clinical confidence.

Located in the heart of Brooklyn, VERG offers a high-volume, high-acuity small animal rotating internship designed to build a strong foundation in specialty and emergency medicine. With direct mentorship from our team of board-certified specialists across disciplines such as cardiology, internal medicine, neurology, and surgery, along with access to cutting-edge technology, interns are immersed in hands-on training and supported in their pursuit of advanced clinical skills and specialty training.
